Case study: Pregnant Client, Z, 37, Bromley, UK

At my first scan the doctor found a condition called low Papp-A (pregnancy associated protein plasma A). This meant that I was more at risk of a low weight baby, premature labour, pre-eclampsia and miscarriage in the second half of pregnancy. My first baby was born weighing 5lbs 9ozs (2nd percentile) so I was very keen to support my body nutritionally this time around. The doctors also recommended extra growth scans to keep a check on how my baby was growing.

At my booking appointment with the midwife they also found I was positive for Groub B Strep from a urine sample. I was advised to take oral antibiotics at the time and to have intravenous antibiotics during labour. It was my preference and choice not to have these.

So I had a lot of fear and worry at first but after my first session with Milena I felt much more confident that we could address and work on these issues. I liked it how Milena recorded our sessions so I could listen again to make sure I'd understood and remembered everything. She also wrote up notes and recommendations afterwards too which were super helpful. The recipes that she sent have also been really helpful.

Milena not only helped me nutritionally but also emotionally. She was part of my team and supported me when sometimes medical professionals would have preferred me to make a different choice (for example taking antibiotics for Group B Strep). She's also a very positive person and a great coach. I always felt very hopeful and positive after having a session. The other thing I really appreciated about Milena was her scientific understanding. I knew that her advice always came from well thought out consideration. She also offered suggestions for different choices I could make. For example that I could consider taking the antibiotics and at the same time take probiotics. So I always felt that she would support me in whichever choice I made.

I am happy to report back that our baby arrived one day before my due date and he weighed a healthy 3.1kg. I had no problems, for example with pre-eclampsia. I also chose not to have oral or intravenous antibiotics and I'm happy to report that there were no problems with GBS. Breastfeeding has gone well with no problems. Our baby was back at his birth weight at the day 5 check, which apparently is uncommon with breastfed babies. I've also been feeling well and strong postpartum.

I'm very glad to have had Milena's support and couldn't imagine such a good outcome without her help. I highly recommend!
