My Top 3 Sunscreen options 2025

Your Hormones + The Sun: What’s Actually Safe?

Finding sunscreen and clean beauty products that protect your skin and your hormones can feel like a research project. Don’t worry though, I have done all the work, just scroll down to see.

By now you’re already probably already aware that most commercial sunscreen products still contain ingredients known as endocrine disruptors. These are compounds that can interfere with your body’s natural hormone balance, often in ways you can’t feel right away… but your cells notice.

Two of the biggest culprits to watch for:

  • Oxybenzone (BP-3)

  • Octinoxate (OMC)

They might also appear under names like benzophenone-3 or octyl methoxycinnamate — and they’ve been detected in places they absolutely shouldn’t be:
☑ Urine
☑ Blood
☑ Semen
☑ Amniotic fluid
☑ Even breast milk

And while there isn’t a reached consensus, many studies are already seeing potential links to:

  • Disrupted thyroid function

  • Altered reproductive hormone levels

  • Impacts on fertility and puberty, including lowered testosterone in some groups

So where does that leave us?

I always lean on the better safe than sorry rule. Especially when it comes to hormone-sensitive windows like fertility, pregnancy, postpartum, or simply supporting long-term hormonal health.

I began researching hormone-safe sunscreens while building my own family. And since then, it’s become a consistent part of my work with 1:1 clients, guiding them through not just nutrition and supplements, but the less obvious, everyday exposures that quietly add up.

The good news?
You don’t have to compromise on protection.
There are now clean, mineral-based sunscreens that do the job without disrupting your hormones, and the environment too!

My safe sunscreens list of 2025

The market of sunscreens is changing constantly. Luckily, there’s a lot more choice out there and it’s great to see. Here are some of my new favourites. These are all EWG approved.

Fierce Nature

This is by far the cleanest purest sunscreen I have ever come across. The ingredients list couldn’t be shorter and clearer and literally made of just food. Ok, except for the non nano zinc oxide particles which are actually providing the UVA and UVB barrier that is needed. This makes this product not only natural but also coral reef safe. Fierce Nature website is a throve of other wonderful natural products with a base of tallow (so probably not for the vegetarians amongst you) but these are all made from sustainable sources, which would otherwise have gone to waste. Their ethos and story is great too.

You can find it on the Natural Dispensary here.

Attitude - Mineral sunscreen

This sunscreen ticks all the boxes. as it’s officially approved and verified by the Environmental Working Group (EWG)’s Skin Deep database, meaning that the product meets EWG’s strictest standards for health and safety. Finally, it’s also incredibly practical in stick format. In fact, all the range of Attitude sunscreen products are.

You can find it on the Natural Dispensary here.

Alba Botanica Sunscreen

This is this year’s new comer. Approved by the EWG but only in this 30SPF version. This is a lightweight mineral sunscreen SPF30 providing broad spectrum protection, formulated with vitamin E, niacinamide and squalene. Water resistant, biodegradable formula. Hypoallergenic. No nano particles. Free from synthetic fragrances, which is where the worst endocrine disruptors hide.

Want to know my Sunscreen Favourites from my previous years’ research?

Read on….These are still some excellent safe products for your hormone and young family members, so if you see them around, be sure to grab them.

TruKid (eczema) sunscreen

This is a wonderful product for the whole family. The reason for it is that it contains the non-nano form of zinc oxide, which creates a safe mechanical barrier for UVA and UVB rays. There is non eczema version available too but this one has a pleasant “spreadability” on the skin.

Shade All Natural Sunscreen

Similarly to TruKid, this sun cream uses non nano zinc oxide, which is better for the environment and coral reef, plus there is not much research around when it comes to nano particles. It comes in a handy (and non plastic) container which can be nicely re-used in the house. It’s not as easy to apply on the skin as TruKid but still a useful travel and sun companion to easily pack in your bags, as they also have a smaller version.

Click here to buy the big version (100 ml) and the small version (15 ml).

Green People sun lotion

In general, Green People’s products are wonderful. They all tend to have a majority of organic ingredients which are carefully sourced and mostly plant based. This sun lotion is the closest to a “conventional” sun cream in terms of feel and ease of applicability but it does contain a small amount of nano titanium dioxide, as opposed to “non nano” as explained for the other two products. This sunscreen provides less of a white sheen on the skin and so it can be handy if you need to look great by the swimming pool :).
